Overview

The ARINC 818 IP Core is a robust, high-performance digital video transmission solution tailored for real-time display and sensor video systems in avionics and aerospace platforms.

Based on the ARINC 818 standard (Avionics Digital Video Bus), this IP core enables high-speed, low-latency, and deterministic transmission of uncompressed and compressed video over fiber optics or copper interfaces. ARINC 818 is the de-facto standard for mission-critical video transport in cockpit displays, mission processors, synthetic vision systems, EO/IR sensors, head-up displays (HUDs), and radar processing units.

  • Compliant with ARINC 818-2 / 818-3 Standards: Fully adheres to the latest versions of ARINC 818 protocol specifications, ensuring compatibility and long-term support.
  • Configurable Video Parameters: Supports a wide range of resolutions (e.g., 720p, 1080p, 4K) and frame rates (24–120 fps) with deep color (8/10/12-bit).
  • High-Speed Serial Transmission: Up to 10 Gbps over copper or optical fiber using standard SERDES interfaces; scalable to 28 Gbps for ARINC 818-3.
  • Multi-Channel Support: Enables multiple video streams or simultaneous sensor feeds using multiple virtual links (VLs).
  • Low Latency Video Pipeline: Optimized buffering and streaming mechanisms ensure end-to-end latency in the microseconds range.
  • CRC & Error Handling: Robust link integrity features including CRC checks, protocol error detection, and retransmission support.
  • Built-In Test (BIT) Capability: Integrated diagnostics and loopback features for power-on self-test (POST) and in-field monitoring.
  • AXI4/AXIS Compatible Interfaces: Easy integration into FPGA or ASIC-based systems with standard interconnect protocols.
  • Compact and Portable Design: Resource-optimized RTL with support for low-power avionics systems and size-constrained deployments.
  • Optimized for Avionics Applications: Designed to meet the strict timing, reliability, and interoperability requirements of airborne and space-based systems.
  • Interoperability with COTS Systems: Enables seamless communication between third-party sensors, video processors, and display controllers.
  • Supports Advanced Display Architectures: Ideal for synthetic vision, wide area motion imagery (WAMI), sensor fusion, and real-time tactical displays.
  • Secure and Deterministic Transport: Real-time video transfer with deterministic behavior, ensuring compliance with safety-critical display requirements.
  • Customizable for Legacy or New Designs: Easily tuned to match custom ARINC 818 implementations or bridge to legacy video protocols (e.g., DVI, HDMI, CameraLink).
  • Modular Integration: Available as a standalone IP block or as part of a larger avionics video processing pipeline with ARINC 664/429 bridges.
